Hello Mathew I am Paul Kennedy and my mother Lottie (Betty) Southerden was Charles Southerden's cousin.
Yes this is the Lifeboat House which is midway between the Harbour and Winchelsea. It is now a listed building and a lady from Winchelsea is trying to organise to preserve the building - she is coincidentally, called Mary Stanford. if you need any more info I will try and give you it.
regards

I was born in Rye Harbour in 1946, and my earliest memories are of my grandmother Nell Breeds and my aunt Bertha Alford and I collecting firewood from the high tide mark along the seashore, we walked with an old pram and it was my job to load it up we walked from the harbour mouth to the lifeboat house. I still often walk from Rye Harbour to the lifeboat house and it really upsets me to see its sad state of repair. Now I know that the crew of the Mary Stanford have a beautiful grave in the churchyard, but couldn't something be done to save the lifeboat house before it becomes too expensive to save? It is a building that can be seen for miles away, and will always be a reminder of those brave Rye Harbour men who gave their lives to save others in danger at sea. I feel it should be saved for future generations so that their sacrifice will never be forgot.

Rye Harbour Lifeboat Station

My grandmother lived in Rye Harbour all her life and her brother Charles Southerden was one of the men who drowned.
Is it derelict? I spent many a summer at Rye and the harbour when I was a child and spent many an hour wandering around the cost but never once recall seeing the lifeboat station
