Connie and Pontie

Connie and Pontie lived at Lime Kiln Cottage.
I believe that Pontie had retired from a civil service job something connected with the forces probably and Connie was I think also a civil servant in an admin. role, but I am really testing my memory here.
Pontie was very resourceful indeed as they both had to be to live in the cottage without any mains services at that time. He built a wind turbine to generate electricity which was stored in a bank of large batteries and they collected rain water from the roof.
Connie remained in the cottage until the 1990’s after Pontie died and eventually she moved to a care home.
Connie was Laurie Band's sister.

Comments

I seem to remember that Pontie was a soap salesman. I can distinctly remember him filling up water barrels at the William the Conqueror in times of drought. His car had a knob on the steering wheel as he only had the use of one arm.

The wind turbine used to fascinate me as a kid - funny to think Lime Cottage is now home to bird watchers.
