Mirror on November 21st 1928

This picture featured across the top of the middle page of the Daily , beneath the headline "Sky goes into mourning during burial of Lifeboat heros - all the people of one village gather round a single grave". Below the picture: A black cloud blotted out the sun while the coffins, covered with Union Jacks and wreaths, of the lifeboatmen lost in the Rye Harbour disaster were carried to the little churchyard at Rye Harbour. As the crew lost their lives going to the aid of a Latvian ship, the Latvian Minister M. Fridricks Vesmans, was in the procession.
