Hi,
My G-G-Gfather Dennis Manning, just in his twenties, was stationed in the Coast Blockade at Rye Harbour from 1826 to 1829. I can imagine him looking over the parapit on a grey and cold November morning, watching out for smugglers running their illegal goods.
