A large Russian arriving at Rye Wharf in 1971 one of the first vessels to berth there with a cargo of timber for Alsfords

I brought the Heinricht Schmidt into Rye 1970 - 1972 to Alsford Wharf with pumice from Las Palmas discharged for Pilcher and Tanner at Lydd for block making.
A very tricky situation stern first as we were too long to swing.
Dover refused to handle pumice. I could only berth on top of spring tides.
